So henry already knows the deal....

Obviously Kind is interested in some powder coating as well as sweetwaters14.

I have the opportunity to get into powdercoating as well as standard painting but i want to see how much interest is out there before i dive into the setup fees of all the equipment.

So... if your interested in powder coating... let me know what types of parts you would be interested in getting coated.

Just fyi... I can only powder coat metal pieces.

17s powercoated black and i was thinking they would look clean with red accents... since you're a painter you know what would look good... here's a pic and you can decide if it'd look good or not...

well i can powder coat myself too, but i'm confined to my house oven....so i can only do small stuff right now. Trust me, the interest is very high amongst other enthusiast. I always have guys in domestics and bikes asking me to do some work for them.

I dont know if your being serious or not but fyi you could powder coat all the metal on the car but not the bumbers. But it isnt really realistic u have to bake powder coating so u would need a oven bigger than your car. Plus I dont remember off the top of my head but Im pretty sure the baking temp is 375-450 range. So if you had a over big enough you would have to strip the entire car of all wires, bushings, plastic, seals, interior, basicly every single part that is not metal. So yes u could but aside from MAD wrench time if u do it yourself or probably a months worth of labor and then 5000+ to coat it.

Valve covers (but only if you can do pink)
Rear multi link (black)
Wheels (bronze or gold)

Also, if you get into paint, you have a customer. I need a white paint job so bad. I don't care how great it looks as this is NOT a show car, I just want my car all one color.

so obviously there is a big interest in this... I'll start looking into the components I'm gonna need. I'll keep ya'll updated. Probably won't be till January till i'm up and going as i want to do test pieces as well. I'll post back here often.

i can do some stuff, like the smaller stuff, but i can't do wheels....fifteens only fit in my oven

What kind of prep do we need to do? Will this be send you parts as is, get them back pc'ed? My valve covers have a couple layers of paint and clear on them already...

ihiryu
11-12-2006, 16:56
well the prep needs to be down to bare metal...well not really, just prefered. Now unless you have paint and clear that can be heated up to 475 degrees. But if not, then sand it all down to bare metal. As far as colors go, I order mine from columbiacoatings.com

all of those interested in powder coating wheels you might want to reconsider because after all you are putting aluminum in an oven and its integrity could be comprimized. At least if you plan on doing any serious racing you might want to settle for paint.

You can send me bare metal parts and i'll do it cheaper... or you can pay be and i'll soda blast it then pc it and sent it back.

ihiryu
11-12-2006, 19:50
i'm the same way, if you want to prep it first, i'll do it for cheap. but if i'm doing the prepping, then it's going to be extra. and you pay shipping both ways.

Id Just like to know what are the price ranges? like examples of small work up to larger work and what those cost.

ihiryu
11-12-2006, 21:17
well i kinda do it by hours, cause i have to factor in my electric bill

Project240
11-12-2006, 23:04
So a set of wheels? Valve cover? hedders? what would be a round about price for those?

ihiryu
11-12-2006, 23:06
i can't do wheels unless they are fifteens. What color, prepped or unprepped?

King

I want to see if I can get ahold of a spare valve cover and get it to you Sour Candy

Sounds good...

This thread is getting confusing....
to clarify... I'm not up and running yet. Prices will be determined after i get all my equipment. I'm not doing any pieces till January probably unless i find an oven sooner. Holiday season... I work in food services...this is our busiest time.

If your local houston please feel free to PM me about any questions or concerns or comments you might have.

I DO currently paint and can do just about anything right now... PM me for request.

I just want a ballpark, Ive never had anything powder coated so I could guess a set of rims could be $50 or $1,000 I have no clue.

ihiryu
11-13-2006, 18:21
I'm up and running though! Project, what size wheels? Is anything painted??? If so, how many layers of paint? Also what color powder do you want?? On the headers I'll have to order something that's super high temp, but the highest temp rating that I know of is 1000 degrees. Just lmk, and we can work something out.

I get all of my paints from columbiacoatings.com

For the valve cover (assuming everything is prepped, and no shipping added) if you did a black, such as super mirror black (which requires no clear) I'd do it for 30 bucks.
If it needs to be prepped; you'd be looking at one or two cans of stripper (six bucks a pop) some sand paper (got me on this one) and about an hour or so worth of labor.
I'd probably do it for 50 bucks, with it painted of course.

I don't charge extra for the prep parts or paint, my true cost comes from labor and my electric bill. I get my powders from columbia coatings, and I charge people the cost of the paint (upon how much i need) and the shipping (and their shipping is outrageous).

Anyway LMK. If you get a lot of stuff done I can probably work out a deal with you. Keep in mind though, I only started powder coating as a hobby. So these prices aren't exactly the right price, I just do it for fun. I'm not trying to make a business out of it. So I'll only be working a job one at a time, there's no way between; my job, school, and free time, I can be powder coating a million valve covers.

King

how much would you charge to do a paint job on the valve cover, sand down and polish the lettering, then spray a bunch of gloss or clear, whatever, to give it a hell of shine?

ihiryu
11-13-2006, 20:07
hmm, color? I'm asking to see if i have that color, then i could give you a definite price, is the valve cover painted? or is it still metal?

ihiryu
11-14-2006, 11:01
i'll do the prep, powder, clear, for 50 bucks

sourcandy
11-15-2006, 20:36
that price is retarded... you must either have cheap *** paint or arn't making any money. The paint itself is around 30 bucks then you have to include your prep materials, solvents, cleaners, rags, sand paper, blasting medium, time spend plasting, etc etc painting, oven time.

You definatly lowballed me dude.... no way i can possibly beat that price.

ihiryu
11-16-2006, 00:53
fifty bucks?? uhhh no dude. i only order 1lb at a time. I'm not trying to lowball you; i'm doing it cheap cause i have most of the material already...http://www.columbiacoatings.com/ look at any of their powders at 1lb. it's cheap; 12-15 bucks. And besides man, laissez faire.
